GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS wrapped up its opening day at Sydney Motorsport Park on Friday under the twilight Sydney sky with an intriguing Practice 2, as all drivers completed their final preparations ahead of qualifying on Saturday.
Taking out top spot for the session was the Kelso Electrical / Team MPC Audi R8 LMS EVO II of Broc Feeney and Brad Schumacher, with Feeney setting the benchmark early in the session with a 1:25.9004 on his ninth lap.
The time remained unbeaten throughout the session, giving the reigning champions plenty of confidence at the end of Friday and heading into an important Saturday qualifying session.
Finishing second fastest was the Team BRM / Wolfbrook Motorsport Audi R8 LMS EVO II of Ryan Wood and Steve Brooks, with their best time of 1:26.2125 leaving them just over three tenths of a second away from the outright pace.
Zagame Autosport produced one of the surprises of the session to claim third, with Josh Buchan and Cameron Campbell guiding their Ferrari 296 GT3 to a 1:26.2207. The pair finished just eight thousandths of a second behind the #88 Audi.
Wall Racing also enjoyed a strong session, with Tony D'Alberto and Adrian Deitz putting their Lamborghini Huracan GT3 into fourth with a 1:26.2839.
The result marked a return to the sharp end of the timesheets for the Wall Racing Lamborghini, which has not featured inside the top five of a session for some time, showcasing the pace of the entry ahead of the opening round.
Completing the top five was the OnlyFans Racing Ferrari 296 GT3 of William Davison and Renee Gracie, with their best time of 1:26.6216 leaving them just over seven tenths away from Feeney's benchmark.
The battle for second through fourth was particularly close, with just seven hundredths of a second separating the three cars by the end of the session.
In the Trophy Class, AED Consulting by Tigani Motorsport's Luke Youlden and Nathan Halstead returned to the top of the timesheets aboard their Porsche 911 GT3 R.
The Porsche recorded a 1:27.7106, switching the Trophy Class order after the KFC / Team MPC Audi R8 LMS EVO II of Paul Stokell and Matthew Stoupas topped the timesheets during the earlier Bronze Driver Practice session.
With all drivers now having completed running on the opening day, attention turns to Saturday's qualifying and the first competitive sessions of the Sydney Motorsport Park round.
