Team BRM’s Alex Peroni has topped the time sheets for the second time today after the Tasmanian produced the fastest lap in GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS’ Pre-Qualifying session.
Behind the wheel of the Team BRM/ACM Finance Audi R8 LMS EVO II he shares with Mark Rosser, Peroni’s lap of 1m XX around the famous Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit was enough to be the fastest of the session by two tenths over Kelso Electrical/Team MPC’s Brad Schumacher and Broc Feeney.
For the second session in a row, it was Audi who proved the fastest manufacturer with the top two cars as Feeney guided the Audi R8 LMS EVO II to his fastest time towards the end of Pre-Qualifying - Peroni’s best time coming just four laps into the session.
Rounding out the top three for Pre-Qualifying was the Arise Racing GT of Ferrari 296 GT3 with Jordan Love and Steven Wyatt just 0.18s off the second Audi - the pair improving significantly between sessions, having placed P8 in Practice 1.
In the Am Cup, it was an unchanged top three from the morning’s session, as Ben Schoots and Shane Woodman in the Black Wolf Motorsport Mercedes-AMG GT3 EVO 5200, went fastest again.
With Renee Gracie in the OnlyFans/Team MPC Audi R8 LMS EVO II only 0.4s off the Am Cup frontrunners by the end of the session and Supabarn Supermarkets/Tigani’s Theo and James Koundouris guiding the Audi R8 LMS EVO II to third by half a second - Pre-Qualifying proved to be a much closer affair compared to the morning’s practice.
GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS resumes on Saturday with Qualifying 1 and 2 at 11:33am and 11:50am AEDT before Race 1 gets underway at 3:50pm AEDT.
All three sessions will be broadcast live and free via 7plus, while the afternoon race will also air on 7mate. International viewers can watch via the GT World YouTube channel.
