The grid has been set for this weekend's two GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS races with the Arise Racing GT Ferrari 296 GT3 of Jaxon Evans and Elliot Schutte to start from Pole Position in each.
Both Evans and Schutte were able to go fastest in each session, with Evans’ lap time of 1m 26.053s in a shortened Qualifying 1 proving too good by two tenths, while Schutte topped the timesheets for the majority of Qualifying 2.
In Qualifying 1, the likes of Declan Fraser in the Volante Rosso Aston Martin AMR GT3, Alex Peroni in the Team BRM Audi R8 LMS EVO II and Tony D’Alberto in the Wall Racing Lamborghini Huracan battled for top spot in the opening few laps before Evans went fastest on his fourth attempt of the Sydney Motorsport Park circuit.
On lap five, the session was turned on its head when Matt Stoupas crashed the KFC Melbourne Performance Centre Audi R8 LMS Evo I - bringing the session to an early end and handing Evans an unchallenged pole position.
Starting tomorrow’s race from the front row alongside Evans will be D’Alberto, whose time was just two tenths off, while Broc Feeney and Ryan Wood ended up third and fourth respectively after the two Melbourne Performance Centre Audi R8 LMS EVO IIs were just over one tenth off the Lamborghini.
Qualifying 2 was quite the opposite as Schutte essentially topped the timesheets for almost the whole session - his lap-four time of 1m 26.682s staying unbeaten.
Starting tonight’s highly anticipated race alongside Schutte will be Renee Gracie in her Audi R8 LMS Evo II after producing a standout performance in both Qualifying 1 and Qualifying 2.
Gracie spent much of Qualifying 2 in an entertaining battle with Melbourne Performance Centre teammate Brad Schumacher as the pair exchanged places on the timesheets.
In the end, Gracie came out on top and finished the session just over one tenth behind Schutte - a remarkable performance from the Am Cup driver, who secured top spot for the class in both sessions.
