A high-quality field has been confirmed to tackle the third round of the 2025 GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS season this weekend as part of the Shannons SpeedSeries’ EVENTelec GT Festival Queensland.
Headlining the impressive entry list for the Queensland Raceway event will be debutants Aaron Love and Luke Youlden, who add to the top shelf drivers fighting it out for GT World Challenge Australia honours this season.
In what is his return to racing following a stint in Supercars, Love is replacing brother Jordan in the Arise Racing GT Ferrari 296 GT3 alongside Stephen Wyatt, while Youlden is part of a completely new entry and joins Nathan Halstead in the AED Consulting/Tigani Motorsport Porsche 911 GT3-R (991).
Unsurprisingly, Love’s entry will attract a lot of interest on the weekend as he links up with Arise Racing GT, whose second Ferrari 296 GT3 of Jaxon Evans and Elliott Schutte hold a commanding 39-point lead on the championship standings after achieving three wins so far this season.
Chasing the lead Ferrari are Broc Feeney and Brad Schumacher in the Kelso Electrical Team MPC Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II. The second placed pair took a thrilling win at Phillip Island in changeable conditions earlier this year, but must strike at Queensland Raceway to enhance their title aspirations - a feat that is highly possible considering Schumacher won there last year.
Leading the Mercedes-AMG charge in third is Jayden Ojeda and Paul Lucchitti for Realta/ Tigani Motorsport. The duo had front-running pace last year at Queensland Raceway and will be aiming to emulate that again to bolster their position in the standings.
Results in Sydney put a dent in Liam Talbot’s pursuit of a hat-trick of titles as the Volante Rosso Motorsport Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 failed to match the pace it displayed at Phillip Island. However, a recent test at Queensland Raceway and buoyed by news of Declan Fraser being part of the AMR Driver Academy puts the team in good stead to challenge in the Sunshine State.
Another team to leave Sydney disappointed was the Dayle ITM Team MPC Audi of Brendon Leitch and Tim Miles. The New Zealand pair left with minimal points, but Leitch was quick at the corresponding event last year making this pairing one to watch.
Geyer Valmont Racing will slim back to one Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo at Queensland Raceway as Brit George King and Sergio Pires aim to score their first Pro-Am podium for the season.
Completing the Pro-Am Class field is the Wall Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo II, which will have team owner David Wall sharing driving duties alongside Adrian Deitz, and last year’s Queensland Raceway Race 1 winners, Alex Peroni and Mark Rosser in the Team BRM Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II.
Renee Gracie has been top of the Am Class field after the opening two rounds driving the OnlyFans Team MPC Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II, but a revitalised challenge from James and Theo Koundouris may provide a worthy challenge.
The Koundouris brothers have switched back to a Supabarn Supermarkets-supported Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo attack run by Tigani Motorsport after starting the season in an Audi. The duo finished second in the Am Class standings last year in a similar package.
Making a welcome return to the field is the 111 Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo for Darren Currie and Grant Donaldson to round out Am Class.
GT Trophy will be a hotly contested affair between Porsche and Audi as Youlden and Halstead return Porsche back to the grid, while multiple Australian Drivers’ Championship winner Paul Stokell replaces Matt Stoupas in the KFC Team MPC Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo I, reuniting with Gary Higgon for the first time since the pairing won the Am Class in 2022.
GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS will have a busy weekend on the cards with two practice sessions and pre-qualifying on Friday, Qualifying and Race 1 on Saturday and Race 2 on Sunday.
Australian based fans will be able to tune into all of Saturday and Sunday’s sessions via 7plus, while international viewers can stay tuned via the GT World YouTube page.
Fans able to make it Queensland Raceway can purchase tickets via the speedseries.com.au/tickets, with a free grid walk preceding Sunday’s final race.
